The National Shooting Sports Foundation has reported a 77% increase in female gun ownership since 2005. This increase has come amid a nearly seven decade long war against firearms. There are several reasons for this increase in female gun ownership, self-defense has been sighted as the primary reason. According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center one in three women experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime. 91% of victims of rape and sexual assault are female. It is estimated that every 92 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. On average, there are 321,500 victims of rape and sexual assault (age 12 or older) in the U.S. every year. The decision to carry a gun is a life changing one and education and training are paramount. Women should be empowered to defend themselves, and this is something that should be strongly advocated in the gun community. There are several resources out there, most notably The Well Armed Woman LLC. It is a resource that is driven specifically for women who are considering their first firearm. Carrie Lightfoot created this resource following her experience when trying to decide on her first firearm. Most resources are driven toward former military and law enforcement and these resources speak in that language and vernacular. This can be intimidating, condescending, and alienating to anyone, not just women, who are new to the world of firearms. This was same reason that Rocket City Tactical was born. We too wanted to speak to new shooters in a language that they could understand. We want to build a resource and community that is not intimidating, condescending, or alienating to potential or new shooters. If you are a woman considering her first concealed carry firearm, or you just want more information, check out https://thewellarmedwoman.com. It might be just the resource that you are looking for. You can never have enough training or information. Use all of the resources that are available to you. The moment we cease to learn is the moment we cease to improve.
